I want to credit the "midwives" who helped bring the studio to life: Rama, Noel, Laura, Rachel, Pat, Melinda, and Brandy.
Noel Lozes, the Zumba instructor at Curves, recommended me to Rama Swamy, the owner of Curves of Elmwood.
I contacted my teacher-trainer, mentor, and friend Laura-Fielder Ates, who had decades of experience as both teacher and studio owner. We accepted the offer to open a yoga studio above Curves, and invited Rachel Piercy, also trained by Laura, to join us.
Laura had the inspiration to envision the studio, the knowledge to create the website, and the artistic ability to transform an empty, unused room to a space where you could practice yoga and "Awaken Your Inner Goddess." It was a challenge, but we had a goal, enthusiasm, experience, and scheduled both day and night classes.
What we didn't have, however, was money to advertise the studio we named Yoga Diva. So 4 months later, for economic reasons, we (Laura, Rachel and Karen) became just me (Karen) and Yoga Diva became Yoga Diva Harahan.
Support also came from downstairs at Curves. Pat Worthington and Melinda Miller, fitness attendants, introduced us to the Curves members.Brandy Burzelleri, a more recent Curves fitness hire, regulates the temperature before classes begin.
I thank ALL of you!
Finally, I want to tell YOU, my faithful students, how much I enjoy teaching you. Thanks for attending and for spreading the word about our studio.
May the studio continue to grow in 2015!
